This Privacy Policy is compliant with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) of India. By using the Janani App, you consent to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. What Data We Collect and Why

We collect only the data necessary to provide you with pregnancy and maternal health support.

2.1 Account & Identity Data

  • Email address, display name, Google profile photo (when signing in with Google)
  • Firebase Authentication UID (internal identifier)

Purpose: Create and manage your account; authenticate you securely.

Legal basis: Consent (DPDPA §6)

2.2 Health & Medical Data (Sensitive Personal Data)

  • Last menstrual period (LMP), expected due date (EDD), gestational age
  • Blood glucose (GRBS) readings with timestamps and meal context
  • Blood pressure, weight, and other self-reported vitals
  • Contraction timing logs (frequency, duration, intensity)
  • Fetal kick count logs
  • GDM (gestational diabetes) diet logs — meals, food items, carbohydrate estimates
  • EPDS (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale) screening responses and scores
  • Menstrual cycle dates and preconception tracking data
  • Lab report uploads (image files)

Purpose: Power health tracking features; display trends; alert you to patterns requiring medical attention.

Legal basis: Explicit consent (DPDPA §6); processing necessary for healthcare services.

2.3 Care Program Data

  • Video watch history, language preferences, module progress

Purpose: Resume educational content; track your learning journey.

Legal basis: Consent

2.4 Device & Technical Data

  • Push notification token (FCM), device type, OS version (Android), app version

Purpose: Send health reminders and appointment notifications; diagnose technical issues.

Legal basis: Consent (you may disable notifications at any time in device settings)

2.5 Usage Data

  • In-app events (screens visited, features used) via Firebase Analytics
  • Crash reports

Purpose: Improve the App; fix bugs.

Legal basis: Legitimate interest. No individual health data is included in analytics events.

  • Sell your personal data to any third party
  • Use your health data for advertising
  • Share your data with insurance companies or employers
  • Use your EPDS (mental health) responses for any purpose other than displaying your results and flagging safety concerns to your linked doctor

4. Data Sharing and Third Parties

Cross-border transfers: Your data may be processed on servers outside India (USA, EU). We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place per DPDPA §16.

Doctor access: If you link your Janani account to a clinic, your linked OBG doctor may view your health data (glucose readings, vitals, contraction logs, kick counts, screening results) for the purpose of providing medical care. This sharing is covered by your clinical consent granted during the linking process.

You may request deletion of your data at any time. See Section 7 for your rights.

6. Data Security

  • All data in transit encrypted via TLS 1.2+
  • Firebase Authentication handles password hashing and session security
  • Supabase Row Level Security (RLS) ensures no user can access another user's clinical data
  • Service role database keys are never exposed to the mobile app — all writes go through authenticated API routes
  • EPDS and mental health data is handled with extra access controls
  • Audit logs maintained for all clinical data access
  • No patient data is logged to application monitoring tools

Despite these measures, no system is 100% secure. If you suspect unauthorised access to your account, contact us immediately at womb2worldwonders@gmail.com.

7. Your Rights Under DPDPA 2023

7.1 Right to Access (§11)

You may request a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it has been processed.

7.2 Right to Correction and Erasure (§12)

You may request correction of inaccurate data or erasure of data no longer necessary for the purpose it was collected. Note: Medical records may be retained for the minimum statutory period even after an erasure request.

7.3 Right to Grievance Redressal (§13)

You may file a complaint with our Grievance Officer (Section 8). We will respond within 30 days of receipt.

7.4 Right to Nominate (§14)

You may nominate another individual to exercise your data rights in the event of death or incapacity. Contact our Grievance Officer to register a nominee.

7.5 Right to Withdraw Consent

You may withdraw consent for any non-essential data processing at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. Contact us at womb2worldwonders@gmail.com.

To exercise any right: Email womb2worldwonders@gmail.com with subject line “DPDPA Data Request” and your registered email address. We will verify your identity before processing the request.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India once it is operational under the DPDPA 2023 framework.

9. Children's Privacy

Janani is designed for adult women of reproductive age (18 years and above). We do not knowingly collect data from individuals under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us at womb2worldwonders@gmail.com and we will delete the account promptly.

10. Health Disclaimer

Janani is a health information and self-monitoring tool, not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. All health tracking data is for personal awareness only.

Always consult a qualified OBG doctor for any medical decisions.

If you experience danger signs — severe bleeding, absent fetal movements, severe headache, visual disturbances, reduced urine output, or labour before 37 weeks — go to the nearest hospital immediately. Do not rely on this app.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy as the App evolves or legal requirements change. When we make material changes, we will:

  • Display an in-app notice
  • Update the “Last updated” date above
  • Where required by law, request fresh consent

Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
